Dicas da Brigit - Conservação de Livros 2 (Brigit's Hints - Conservation of Books 2)
Se você vai usar prateleiras preste atenção à espessura delas! Livros em quantidade são pesados mesmo que sejam pequenos e precisam de prateleiras grossas para aguentar o peso.
As prateleiras de metal são as melhores do ponto de vista de conservação dos livros pois podem ser desinfetadas com álcool após a limpeza comum.
Mas também podem ser de madeira desde que não sejam pintadas; você pode colocar placas de vidro sobre elas servindo de revestimento entre os livros e as prateleiras, desse modo qualquer fungo que estiver “escondido” na madeira ficará isolado.
Em prateleiras presas diretamente nas paredes (sem revestimento no fundo) deixe um espaço entre os livros e as paredes para ventilação e também para evitar que a umidade da parede afete os livros (e lá vem os fungos!).
Da mesma forma, se as prateleiras estiverem dentro de armários ou estantes deixe um espaço para ventilação.
Se você guarda os livros em armários e estantes fechadas deixe as portas abertas com frequência por algum tempo (ventilação).
Livros guardados dentro de caixas? Nem pensar!
E acondicionados em sacos plásticos? Nem pensar também! Dentro de sacos plásticos o papel não “respira”.
Os livros devem ficar em pé (na vertical) formando um ângulo reto com a prateleira, um ao lado do outro mas sem estarem “arrochados” uns contra os outros; esse “arrocho” favorece a visita de cupins, não permite ventilação além de danificar a lombada dos livros.
Quando for retirar um livro não o puxe pela parte de cima da lombada, mas abra um espaço entre os dois livros que estão na lateral e puxe o livro desejado pelo meio da lombada.
Retirar e colocar um livro deve ser feito de maneira fácil e natural, sem atrito, apenas deslizando-o.
Resista à tentação de colocar alguns deles inclinados, isso deforma o livro. Se necessário, coloque aparadores para mante-los na vertical.
Separe os livros por tipo de encadernação, ou seja, não coloque em contato direto encadernações de couro com encadernações feitas com tecido ou papel.
Se você tem livros com altura maior que a prateleira pode coloca-los deitados uns em cima dos outros mas que sejam do mesmo tamanho e no máximo três volumes. Se forem de tamanhos diferentes, os maiores devem ficar por baixo.

But the shelves can also be made of wood, not painted, and you can place a glass plate on them serving as a coating between the books and the shelves to isolate any fungus "hidden" in the wood.
In racks attached directly to the walls (no lining at the bottom) leave a space between the books and the walls for ventilation and also to prevent that any moisture from the wall will not affect the books (and here comes the fungi!).
Likewise, if the shelves are inside cabinets leave a space for ventilation and let the doors often opened .
Books stored in boxes? No way! And packed in plastic bags? Not way too! Inside plastic bags the paper does not "breathe".
Books should stand up (vertically) to form a right angle to the shelf, next to each other but without being "squeezed", a "crunch" favors the visit of termites, does not allow ventilation and also damage the spine of the books.
When removing a book do not pull it by the top of the spine, but open a space between the two books that are on each side and pull the desired book by the middle of the spine.
To remove and to place a book from a shelf should be done easily and naturally, without friction, just skimming it.
Resist the temptation to put some of them tilted, this deforms the book. If necessary, set dressers to keep them upright.
Separate the books by the type of binding, ie, do not put books with leather covers in direct contact with books with fabric or paper covers.
If you have books with height taller than the shelf you can put them lying on top of each other if they are the same size, and only three volumes. If they are of different sizes, the big one must be underneath.
