A Viagem (160): Doune Castle & Outlander

Doune Castle, é o verdadeiro nome do castelo que aparece na série Outlander, filmada na Escócia, e que conta a vida de um casal diferente: ela, Claire,  fez uma viagem no tempo e retornando ao passado conheceu Jamie, casou-se com ele, teve uma filha ....... mas não vou contar mais, veja a série porque é fascinante, principalmente pra quem gosta de história, de época medieval e da Escócia!

O nome fictício desse castelo na série televisiva é Leoch Castle, e além de Outlander, também foram gravados ali cenas de Monty Python and the Holy Grail e Game of Thrones.

Claro que parei pra desenhar mas pintei depois, já em casa, em Edinburgh. 

Doune Castle is the actual name of the castle that appears in the series Outlander, filmed in Scotland, and tells the life of a different couple: she, Claire, made a trip back in time and returned to the past, met Jamie, married him , had a daughter ....... but I will not tell more, watch the series because it is fascinating, especially for those who like history, medieval times and Scotland!

The fictitious name of this castle in the television series is Leoch Castle, and in addition to Outlander,  scenes of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Game of Thrones were recorded there.

Of course I stopped to sketch but finished the painting later, at home in Edinburgh.

O castelo foi construido no século 13 pelo Duque de Albany,  terceiro filho do rei Robert II da Escócia.  Seu irmão era o rei da Escócia mas devido a complicações  por causa de uma queda de cavalo o reino passou para as mãos de um regente e o duque passou a ser o comandante do reino. Não se tornou rei porque morreu antes do irmão, e assim o rei passou a ser seu filho que foi morto pouco tempo depois.  Quem passou a ser o rei foi James I, que tornou-se James I da Inglaterra e VI da Escócia e com a mudança do reinado para Londres, o castelo de Doune perdeu o status de castelo real.

The castle was built in the 13th century by the Duke of Albany, the third son of King Robert II of Scotland. His brother was the king of Scotland but due to complications after a fall of a horse the kingdom passed into the hands of a regent and the duke happened to be the commander of the kingdom. He did not become king because he died before his brother, and so the king became his son who was killed shortly after. Who became the king was James I, who became James I of England and VI of Scotland and with the change of the reign to London, Doune castle lost the status of royal castle.

Passeei bastante tanto fora quanto dentro do castelo fui em todos os cômodos onde era permitido entrar, sentei em todas as cadeiras e bancos, tirei centenas de fotos. É um castelo pequeno, um pouco em ruínas, mas encantador, eu viveria muito bem nele!

I spent quite as much time outside as inside the castle: I went into all the rooms where I was allowed to enter, I sat on all the chairs and benches, I took hundreds of photos. It is a small castle, a little ruined, but charming, I would live very well in it!

A temperatura dentro dele era fria, quase congelante. Pequeno e feito de pedras acho que o frio fica ainda mais intenso. 

Ah, e as portas! Tenho uma fascinação por portas mas não encontrei muitas, e eram simples, sem muitos adornos nem entalhes.

The temperature inside it was cold, almost freezing. Small and made of stones I think the cold gets even more intense.

Oh, and the doors! I have a fascination for doors but I did not find many, and they were simple, without much adornment or notches.

As escadas que levam para os quartos são bem estreitas, as salas são pequenas mas os quartos são minúsculos. Fico pensando como as pessoas daquela época, principalmente na Escócia já que os homens eram grandes, faziam pra dormir em locais tão apertados. Outros tempos.



Foi um ótimo passeio, ainda mais porque me colocou na época medieval....minha imaginação me fez ficar em meio a reis, rainhas, música escocesa, dança, comidas fumegantes...e guerras de clãs!

The stairs leading to the rooms are quite narrow, the rooms are small but the bedrooms are tiny. I wonder how the people of that time, especially in Scotland since the men were big, made to sleep in places so tight. Other times.



It was a great tour, even more so  because it put me in medieval times .... my imagination made me stand in the middle of kings, queens, scottish music, dancing, steaming food ... and clan wars!
