Hello, my friends, I have some news to tell you 😀

Those of you who know me here and especially on Instagram have already seen me say, in videos and stories, that this blog is my “little darling” because it was here that I started showing both my handmade bookbinding and art activities.

When I make handmade books I always make a video showing them, then I share them on Instagram, post them here including photos and a link to the video on YouTube, and put the books on sale in my online store.

A store where people in my country can buy one of my books...

Ok, ok.....

This is a blog that spreads organically all over the world and occasionally someone from outside Brazil asks me how to get hold of, or buy, one of my books.

And I keep thinking 😥...... thinking of a solution to serve the people who visit me here, who see the books I make, who would like to have one of these books but can't because I don't provide the means to buy it.

I swear to you that sometimes it's hard to organize everything on all my Social Networks and still manage the Handmade Book Club, making posts almost daily, etc....

But the case here on the blog has been on my mind for a long time: finding a way to make the handmade books available abroad. 😊

I'm preparing everything to make this possible and here's how it's going to work:

On every book post I release, I'll put a button so that anyone interested in the book can contact me via Whatsapp and check availability (yes, because handmade books sell out fast). 

If the book is available for purchase, with the delivery address information I can calculate the price of shipping by post or by a carrier.

The final purchase price will be the value of the book + the price of international shipping.

As soon as the book has been sent, I inform the person of the Tracking Code.

That's it! The person receives the book, is happy and I'm also happy to have made a book that has traveled, that has found its destination in the hands of someone in another country!

It must be a great feeling to know that my work is “traveling” the world! I'll let you know how it goes! 💗

As soon as I get everything organized, I'll let you know in the book posts themselves, and by going back to the most recent posts where I showed handmade books.

Imagens em Decoupage (Images in Decoupage)

Olá!



O Estúdio Brigit começou em 2008 com velas de imagens religiosas e decorativas, depois passou à encadernação artesanal, mas de vez em quando tem gente que me pergunta das imagens, se vou voltar a fazer velas religiosas, etc etc....bom, as velas eu não garanto voltar a fazer mas que tal estas imagens?



São imagens em gesso, com técnica de decoupage, todas de fundo branco;  eu coloco detalhes em prata, perolado, fitas......é um ótimo presente para o Natal que está chegando, são diferentes e tem todo um lado emocional pela religiosidade além de serem lindas como peça de decoração.



Algumas já estão á venda no site, não são muitas porque demoro para fazer, mas até o fim deste ano vou colocando mais lá.

Também não farei sempre como faço com os livros artesanais; farei as imagens algumas vezes durante o ano apenas.



Vou começar com esta Nossa Sra das Graças, que mede aproximadamente 32cm de altura e pesa 850 gramas. 



As imagens são únicas porque é muito difícil fazer várias exatamente iguais. Gostaram?

The Estudio Brigit began in 2008 with religious  and decorative candles, later we began  the bookbinding, but occasionally there are people who ask me about the religious  images (candle statues), well,  instead of candles what about these plaster statues? 




They are decorated with a decoupage technique, all the white background; they have  silver details, pearl, ribbons ...... a great gift for the coming Christmas, they are different and have a whole emotional religiosity side  as well as being a beautiful piece of decoration. 



Some are already for sale on the site, there are not many because it takes me a lot of time to do, but later this year I'm doing more. 



 I will make the images a few times during the year, only.



I'll start with this Our Lady of Graces, which measures approximately 32cm in height and weighs 850 grams. 





The images are unique because it is very difficult to make several exactly alike. How do you reckon?

Belgian Book

Já fazia tempo que eu tinha vontade de fazer um livro com costura Belgian!

O "segredo" desse livro é justamente esse: "Como a costura é feita??"

It was time that I wanted do make a Belgian Book binding!

The "secret" of this book is exactly this: "How is the stitching maiden?"

Hedi Kyle, chefe do setor de conservação na American Philosophical Society, professora adjunta da Universidade das Artes, na Filadélfia e autora de vários livros sobre encadernação, desenho, e outras formas de arte, "decifrou" essa costura que sempre foi atribuída aos belgas.

Resolvi desvendar esse segredo também! E assim, munida de uma super dose de paciência  pesquisei alguns livros que tinham essa costura e lá fui eu!

Hedi Kyle, head of conservation at the American Philosophical Society, adjunct professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and author of several books on bookbinding, drawing and other art forms, "cracked" this seam that has always been attributed to the Belgians.



I decided to unlock this secret too! And so, armed with an overdose of patience I researched some books that had this seam and off I went!

O "segredo" é costurar primeiro as 2 capas na lombada, com movimentos tipo "onda" e depois costurar cada parte do miolo, uma por uma, na lombada.  Ou seja, o miolo do livro é todo costurado na lombada e ele fica com uma abertura ótima, livre, de 180ª, e que não força a estrutura.

Um pouquinho trabalhoso, mas valeu a pena! 

Vamos lá:

The "secret" is to first sew the  two covers on the spine, with movements like "waves" and then sew each part of the kernel, one by one, on the spine. So, the core of the book is sewn into every stitch and it gets a good opening, free, 180º, and that does not force the structure.



A bit laborious, but worth it!



Here we go:

Fiz as capas com tecido importado, 100% algodão, e o miolo em papel Reciclato 120g/m². Ficou um livro de 16cm x 22,5cm.

Usei linha encerada na cor marrom, um pouco avermelhada, para combinar com o desenho do tecido.

I made the covers with imported fabric, 100% cotton, and the kernel is  Reciclato paper, 120g /m². It 's a book of 16 cm x 22.5 cm.

I used waxed brown linen, a little reddish,  to match the design of the fabric.

Primeiro costurei toda a lombada que na verdade nem é furada, os furos são apenas nas capas e a costura prende a lombada. No fim, a lombada ficou com 2,5 cm de espessura.

First  I sewed the entire spine that is not really stuck, the holes are just on the covers and the stitching holds the spine. In the end, the spine was 2.5 cm thick.

Depois costurei o miolo na lombada e pra que a costura que fiz na capa não ficasse aparecendo, colei uma tira de tecido em cima dela. Ficou charmoso, não?

Then I sewed the core into the spine and as I didn't want  the seam to be  appearing on the cover, I glued a strip of fabric on top of it. Charming, isn't it?

E é isso!

Livro Sonserina Green ( Slytherin Green Book)

Acho que posso me considerar uma Potterhead porque da última vez em que estive em Hogwarts, na Universal Studios, em Orlando, me senti em casa e nem queria mais sair de lá! Por mim, comprava um daqueles casebres dentro do parque e ficaria ali pra sempre!

I guess I can consider myself a Potterhead because the last time I was at Hogwarts, at Universal Studios in Orlando, I felt at home and didn't even want to leave! I'd buy one of those huts inside the park and stay there forever!

Claro, comprei muitos ítens, muitos objetos da Saga Harry Potter: desde livros, varinhas, chaveiros, canetas, canetas até a roupa completa dos alunos!

Então, usando meus conhecimentos de Encadernação Artesanal, não poderia passar por esta vida de fã sem fazer alguns livros com a temática da saga!

Se o Chapéu Seletor fosse escolher minha casa com certeza seria a Sonserina, por isso fiz este livro. 

Of course, I bought many items, many objects from the Harry Potter Saga: from books, wands, key rings, pens to the students' complete outfits!

So, using my knowledge of Handmade Bookbinding, I couldn't go through this fan life without making some books with the theme of the saga!

If the Sorting Hat were to choose my house, it would definitely be Slytherin, which is why I made this book. 

Vamos ver as especificações, que não são poucas pois é um livro complexo e completo, apaixonante!

- Medidas aproximadas: 14cm de largura x 21,5cm de comprimento;

- Peso aproximado: 810 gramas;

- Capas duras revestidas com tecido importado Brillianta na cor verde; Internamente revestidas com papel kraft;

- Baixo relevo na capa frontal, com adesivo da Sonserina;

- Bolsos nas Guardas para encaixe de pequenso papéis, feitos com partes do livro O Mundo Mágio de Harry Potter;

- Envelope interno no estilo "cartinha de Hogwarts" para guardar pequenos papéis;

- Primeira página com a capa original do livro O Mundo Mágico de Harry Potter;

- Miolo: 174 folhas diversas (348 páginas), cortadas à mão de forma rústica e agrupadas da seguinte forma:

- 24 folhas de papel Color Plus coloridas, sem pauta, 140g/m²;

- 54 folhas de papel offset branco, sem pauta, 120g/m²;

- 28 folhas originais do livro Harry Potter e O Cálice de Fogo;

- 30 folhas de papel kraft, sem pauta, 80g/m²;

- 30 folhas de papel Pólen, pautadas, 90g/m²;

- 2 folhas de papel offset pintadas á mão, sem pauta, 120g/m²;

- 6 folhas impressas, 120g/m²;

- Algumas folhas possuem adesivos com o tema da saga Harry Potter, além de carimbos diversos;

- Marcador de páginas fixo, na cor verde;  

- Marcador de páginas móvel, em veludo preto, decorado com miçangas e pingente metálico d eteia e aranha;

- Fechamento com faixa em tecido Brillianta e ímã.

LIVROS MEDIEVAIS EM COURO (MEDIEVAL LEATHER BOOKS) - Part 2

Olá, Amores!

Este foi o segundo Livro Medieval que fiz usando couro de animal e dei a ele o nome de Buttons por motivos óbvios. 😂

Hello, lovelies!

This was the second Medieval Book I made using animal leather and I named it Buttons for obvious reasons. 😂

Interessante como uma mudança de padrão no material que estou acostumada a usar pode afetar tanto as certezas de quem já faz encadernação há mais de 15 anos.

Surgiram algumas dúvidas do tipo: forrar ou não a parte interna das capas, fazer a furação da costura com agulhão ou com ferramenta própria pra fazer furos, qual tamanho de agulha usar.....e quando isso acontece eu estanco!! Eu paro tudo, vou fazer outra coisa qualquer até que minhas idéias se realinhem e eu consiga achar as respostas que na verdade sei, mas que parece que se esconderam em algum lugar da minha mente.

It's interesting how a change in the standard of the material I'm used to using can affect the certainties of someone who has been bookbinding for over 15 years.

Some doubts have arisen, such as whether or not to line the inside of the covers, whether to pierce the seams with a needle or with a tool designed for pierce holes, what size needle to use..... and when this happens I stop!!! I stop everything, go and do something else until my ideas realign themselves and I manage to find the answers that I actually know, but which seem to have been hidden somewhere in my mind.

Incrível essa sensação de ainda ter dúvidas ao fazer um livro artesanal. 

Bom, é como dizem: "recomponha-se e vá em frente", e assim fiz, afinal não posso ser parada por um livro, seria ridículo! 😁

That feeling of still having doubts when making a handmade book is incredible. 

Well, as they say: “pull yourself together and get on with it”, and so I did, after all I can't be stopped by a book, that would be ridiculous! 😁

Com paciência e calma fiz o livro, gostei do resultado e tomara que todos gostem e alguém o leve pra casa. Está na loja, vamos ver se alguém se identifica com ele.

With patience and calm I made the book, I like the result and I hope everyone likes it and someone takes it home. It's in the store, let's see if anyone can identify with it.

Vamos às especificações:

- Medidas aproximadas: 12cm de largura x 14cm de altura;

- Peso aproximado: 250 gramas;

- Miolo:  120 folhas (240 páginas) de papel offset 120g/m², envelhecidas artesanalmente, sem pauta, corte rústico. Guardas em papel de scrapbooking, folhas carimbadas em cantoneiras, com carimbo vintage na primeira página.

- Capa macia em couro marrom revestida internamente com tecido;

- Costura Longstitch feita com linha resistente na cor marrom;

- Fechamento com trança marrom e botões em madeira;

- Acompanha saquinho para guardar o livro;

Não posso deixar de mencionar que fiz a mesma costura nos 3 livros; acho que é uma costura que tem um ótimo efeito, fácil de fazer mas que precisa de atenção.

I can't help but mention that I did the same stitching on all three books; I think it's a stitching that has a great effect, easy to do but needs attention.

Natal é Natal e mesmo com todo rebuliço que está acontecendo no mundo temos sempre que renovar nossas Esperanças em dias melhoras para 2021, e o melhor momento pra isso, sem dúvida, é no Natal!

Natal é uma homenagem, seja ela como for, ao Ser mais importante que já esteve neste planetinha azul lindo!

Por isso, tenha o Espírito do Natal sempre com você, em todos os dias do ano!

Espero que todos tenham tido um Natal de Paz e Saúde, que se estenda a 2021 com Prosperidade e Alegria!

Parei um pouco as postagens aqui no blog por causa das aulas ao vivo, sobre Encadernação Artesanal, que ministrei no YouTube entre Novembro e começo de Dezembro.

Aliás, em 2020 dei bastante ênfase à encadernação no YouTube e ao meu Curso de Encadernação Artesanal também, e por isso me ausentei um pouco do blog. 

Os vídeos de encadernação no YouTube estão disponíveis para assistir por tempo limitado então se eu fizesse postagens deles aqui no blog, em algum momento, quando ficassem indisponíveis, o link deixado aqui não funcionaria. Por esse motivo não fiz postagens referentes a esses vídeos.

Em 2021 espero voltar à minha programação normal que são vídeos de aquarelas, desenhos, lápis de cor e artesanato, e também apresentar mais vídeos de encadernação mas sem interromper os demais vídeos e esses outros vídeos terão postagens aqui no blog, como sempre tiveram.

No momento estou de férias, foi um ano intenso, estranho.....preciso de um tempo, curto mas necessário, para recarregar minhas energias. Volto no final de Janeiro com as postagens aqui no Blog.

No vídeo abaixo fiz o desenho daquela plantinha típica do Natal, o azevinho, e aquarelei, tomara que você goste.

Christmas is Christmas and even with all the excitement that is happening in the world we always have to renew our hopes for better days for 2021, and the best time for that, without a doubt, is at Christmas!

Christmas is a tribute, whatever it may be, to the most important Being who has ever been on this beautiful little blue planet!

So, have the Spirit of Christmas always with you, every day of the year!

I hope that everyone have had a Christmas with Peace and Health, which extends to 2021 with Prosperity and Joy!

I stopped the posts here on the blog because of the live classes, on Bookbinding, which I taught on YouTube between November and early December.

In fact, in 2020 I gave a lot of emphasis to binding on YouTube and to my Handmade Binding Course too, and that's why I left the blog a little.

Binding videos on YouTube are available to watch for a limited time so if I post them here on the blog, at some point, when they become unavailable, the link would not work here. For this reason, I did not make any posts regarding these videos.

In 2021 I hope to return to my normal schedule, which are videos of watercolors, drawings, colored pencils and crafts, and also to present more binding videos but without interrupting the other videos and these other videos will have posts here on the blog, as they always have.

At the moment I'm on vacation, it was an intense, strange year ..... I need a short but necessary time to recharge my energies. I'll be back at the end of January with the posts here on the Blog.

In the video above I made the drawing of that typical Christmas plant, the holly, and watercolored it, hopefully you like it.

Pequena pausa para uma viagem! (A short break for a trip!)

Sim, sim, é isso mesmo, mais uma viagem e desta vez às terras do Tio Sam!

Vou lá pesquisar materiais, participar de workshops e voltar com muitas ideias!

Nunca fui aos EUA e chegou o momento, apesar de detestar aviões (também não gosto de navios) estou bem animada.

LIVRO ACORDEÃO - 3ª MARATONA DE ENCADERNAÇÃO ARTESANAL (ACCORDION BOOK - 3rd BOOK BINDING MARATHON)

Olá, Amores & Amoras, neste post vou mostrar o Livro Acordeão da 3ª Maratona de Encadernação Artesanal do Estúdio Brigit que aconteceu na segunda semana de Julho.

Pra você que está chegando agora e não sabe, as Maratonas de Encadernação do Estúdio Brigit são uma série de LIVES, ou seja, de aulas ao vivo e gratuitas onde eu mostro como fazer um livro artesanal.

Desta vez escolhi um livro com uma lombada expansível, com sanfona, ou seja, podemos colocar papéis, fotos, envelopes, etc, dentro dele e depois ajustar o volume do livro, que logicamente aumenta quando colocamos papéis dentro dele.

O fechamento do livro é feito com fita de cetim e é ela quem regula o fechamento.

Uma vez entendida a técnica, podemos fazer livros para todas as finalidades: anotações, fotos, poesias, diários, etc...

E é dessa forma que montei meu Curso Básico de Encadernação Artesanal: dando aos alunos o conhecimento necessário para que façam livros bonitos, bem acabados, e de qualquer tamanho porque gosto de explicar de forma que a pessoa entenda a técnica, e uma vez entendida fica fácil produzir um livro de qualquer tamanho.

It is a very beautiful book and can be made in any size!

Once the technique is understood, we can make books for all purposes: notes, photos, poetry, diaries, etc ...

And that's how I set up my Basic Book Binding course: giving students the knowledge they need to make beautiful, well-finished books, of any size because I like to explain in a way that the person understands the technique, and once understood it's easy to produce a book of any size.

The 3rd Marathon was a success, as were the 1st and 2nd ones!

I saw beautiful books being made by those who watched the LIVES  and many people used @estudiobrigit on Social Media to mark the studio in the photos.

High Creativity !! Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 3rd Marathon and soon I will show the book made in the 4th Book Binding Marathon, which took place at the end of 2020 and was a success because it was a complete, uncomplicated course!

On the last day of the 3rd Marathon I did a giveaway, on Instagram, of another book with the same technique. I love promoting sweepstakes and seeing people happy!

This one of the photos is the Official Accordion Book so I had time to decorate it and even showed it at the first LIVE how to make some of the decorations.

Este é um livro tamanho A5 e a lombada dele é expansível, ou seja, podemos colocar papéis e enfeites nas páginas sem problema de espaço ou do livro "engordar" e não fechar porque a lombada expansível permite que ajustemos o fechamento do livro com uma fita de cetim, apertando ou afrouxando a lombada.

This is an A5 size book and its spine is expandable, that is, we can put papers and embellishments on the pages without a problem of space or the book "putting on weight" and not closing because the expandable spine allows us to adjust the closure of the book with a ribbon satin, tightening or loosening the spine.

E essa liberdade na lombada se deve a fato de termos uma sanfona onde os cadernos são costurados, mas a sanfona em si não é costurada de forma tradicional, mas sim apenas aos cadernos deixando-os soltos.

And this freedom in the spine is due to the fact that we have an accordion where the notebooks are sewn, but the accordion itself is not sewn in a traditional way, but only to the notebooks leaving them loose.

A costura é a Panfleto Simples, com nó na parte de dentro de cada caderno.

Á primeira vista pode parecer um livro um pouco complicado de ser feito mas não é.

Em todas as Maratonas eu mostro como fazer livros simples, onde qualquer pessoa consegue fazer mesmo que nunca tenha feito Encadernação Artesanal, e por quê?

porque Encadernação Artesanal é para todos, com livros simples ou complexos de acordo com o conhecimento de cada um.

The sewing is the Simple Pamphlet, with a knot inside each notebook.

At first glance it may seem like a little complicated book to be made but it is not.

In all  Marathons I show how to make simple books, where anyone can do them even if they have never done Handmade Binding, and why?

Because Book Binding  is for everyone, with simple or complex books according to the knowledge of each person.

In this post we do not have a video because after the  LIVES the videos go to the Estúdio Brigit Book Binding Course  so they are visible only to students, so "keep an eye" on Estúdio Brigit  and on our Social Networks to participate in the next one Marathon!
