Hello, everyone!
Strolling around Porto, night or day, is always a historic sight in every respect. In the photo above, we see the Chapel of Santa Catarina with its 15,994 tiles, on the corner of the street that bears its name, built in the 18th century.
I took the opportunity to take photos at angles that favor drawing, so my sketchbook will come in handy later on. 😀

Passear no Porto, de noite ou de dia, é sempre uma visão histórica sob todos os aspectos. Na foto acima, vemos a Capela de Santa Catarina com seus 15.994 azulejos, na esquina da rua que leva seu nome, construída no século XVIII.
Aproveitei pra tirar fotos em ângulos que favorecem um desenho então mais á frente meu sketchbook terá grande serventia. 😀
The streets of the port have a good number of slopes, so you need courage, good sneakers and good weather to go up and down all the time. Even when the street “deceives” you and you think it's flat, you're certainly going up and down, but it's worth taking your time and looking at the old buildings; some in near-decay and others well cared for, like the commercial building in the photo above.
As ruas do porto tem uma boa distribuição de ladeiras, é preciso ânimo, bons tênis e tempo bom pra subir e descer o tempo todo. Mesmo quando a rua nos "engana" e achamos que é plana com certeza estamos subindo e descendo, mas vale a pena andar com calma e observar as construçõesw antigas; algumas em quase decadência e outras bem cuidadas como o prédio comercial da foto acima.
And speaking of old buildings, I couldn't miss a visit to Café Majestic!
Designed by architect José Pinto de Oliveira, it is still one of the greatest symbols of Art Nouveau in Porto. The building, inaugurated in 1916, stands at the intersection of Santa Catarina and Passos Manuel streets.
The façade impresses with its marble adorned with sinuous shapes and elements inspired by nature, a typical example of the decorative style of the time. Three large doors stand out at the front of the building, with a rectangular section of glass above them. At the top, a pediment with the café's initials adds a special touch, flanked by sculptures of children in cheerful poses, inviting passers-by to enter.
Inside, the space is faithful to the Art Nouveau language. The wooden frames with elegant curves and the decorative details are a delight for the eyes. The walls, lined with large aged mirrors and interspersed with worked metal chandeliers, create a play of reflections that makes the room seem larger than it really is.
Stucco elements, such as human faces, delicate figures and floral ornaments, reinforce the space's fluid and sensual charm. Two rows of leather seats, which replace the old red velvet ones, add depth and a touch of sophisticated comfort.
The details in the mirror frames, the soft light from the chandeliers, the marble finishes and the smiling sculptures that adorn the ceiling and walls contribute to a cozy and elegant atmosphere. The Café Majestic conveys luxury and well-being and is the perfect place to relax and have a quiet chat.
E falando em construção antiga não poderia faltar uma ida ao Café Majestic!
Projetado pelo arquiteto José Pinto de Oliveira, é até hoje um dos maiores símbolos da Arte Nova no Porto. O prédio, inaugurado em 1916, fica no cruzamento das ruas Santa Catarina e Passos Manuel.
A fachada impressiona com seu mármore adornado por formas sinuosas e elementos inspirados na natureza, um exemplo típico do estilo decorativo da época. Três grandes portas chamam atenção na frente do edifício, com uma seção retangular de vidro logo acima. No topo, um frontão com as iniciais do café dá um toque especial, ladeado por esculturas de crianças em poses alegres, convidando quem passa a entrar.
Por dentro, o espaço segue fiel à linguagem da Arte Nova. As molduras em madeira com curvas elegantes e os detalhes decorativos são um deleite para os olhos. As paredes, revestidas por grandes espelhos envelhecidos e intercaladas com lustres de metal trabalhado, criam um jogo de reflexos que faz o ambiente parecer maior do que realmente é.
Elementos em estuque, como rostos humanos, figuras delicadas e ornamentos florais, reforçam o charme fluido e sensual do espaço. Duas fileiras de bancos em couro, que substituem os antigos de veludo vermelho, dão profundidade e um toque de conforto sofisticado.
Os detalhes nos caixilhos dos espelhos, a luz suave dos lustres, os acabamentos em mármore e as esculturas sorridentes que adornam o teto e as paredes contribuem para uma atmosfera acolhedora e elegante. O Café Majestic transmite luxo e bem-estar, sendo o lugar perfeito para relaxar e bater um papo tranquilo.
A stroll along the harbor quay is also interesting, and you can rent one of these gondolas for a short ride.
Uma voltinha pelo cais do porto também é interessante, e é possível alugar uma dessas gôndolas pra um breve passeio.
