Falar do Reino Unido, ou especificamente da Escócia, e não falar de Whisky é quase um crime, um erro lastimável pois ele é a bebiba destilada mais consumida no mundo.
Visitei uma destilaria na Escócia e apesar de não ter o hábito de beber bebidas alcoólicas (com exceção de vinhos) o aroma de malte dos enormes alambiques me conquistou!
Basicamente o Whisky é uma mistura de cevada, milho, centeio e trigo triturados, mas são adicionadas também outras substâncias que dão aroma e gosto característicos a cada um.
Hello!Talking about the UK, or specifically Scotland, and not talking about Whiskey is almost a crime, a pitiful mistake as it is the most consumed distilled beverage in the world.I visited a distillery in Scotland and despite not having the habit of drinking alcoholic beverages (except for wines) the malt scent of the huge stills has conquered me!Basically, Whiskey is a blend of crushed barley, corn, rye and wheat, but other substances are added that add flavor and taste to each.Na Escócia existem 4 tipos de Whisky:

Single Malt feito apenas com cevada, que é o mais caro e mais difícil de ser encontrado. É também o mais forte na minha opinião, por isso é servido em copos minúsculos e sem gelo. Uma dose dele é um "mata leão", é tomar e cair em sono profundo, no meu caso.
- O
Vatted, ou puro malte, na verdade é uma mistura de dois Single Malt então não vi diferença entre eles. Também é tomado sem gelo. Pra mim é tomar e cair em sono profundo, quase entrar em coma.
- O
Grain Whisky, que como o nome sugere, é uma mistura de grãos e também o mais popular e barato. Pode ser tomado em copos comuns, com ou sem gelo, e particularmente não fiquei fã mas não é tão forte e gostoso como o Single e o Vatted.
- O
Blended, é uma mistura de Grain e Single e é o mais popular da Escócia e também o mais consumido em todo o mundo.
In Scotland there are 4 types of Whiskey:- The Single Malt made only with barley, which is the most expensive and most difficult to find. It is also the strongest in my opinion, so it is served in tiny cups and without ice. One dose of it is a "killer lion," we drink and fall into deep sleep, in my case.- Vatted, or pure malt, is actually a mixture of two Single Malt so I did not see any difference between them. It is also served without ice. For me is to drink and fall into deep sleep, almost into a coma.- Grain Whiskey, which as the name suggests, is a mixture of grains and also the most popular and cheap. It can be served in ordinary glasses, with or without ice, and I have not been a fan particularly but it is not as strong and delicious as the Single and Vatted.- Blended, is a mixture of Grain and Single and is the most popular in Scotland and also the most consumed in the world.Basicamente o Single e o Vatted são maltes puros feitos com 100% dos cereais maltados em uma única destilação; o Grain e o Blended são provenientes de diversas destilações.
Basically Single and Vatted are pure malts made from 100% malted cereals in a single distillation; Grain and Blended come from various distillations.
Mas o que é
Malte?
Bom, a palavra "whisky" veio do gaélico falado no norte da Escócia e significa "água da vida". Para fazer o malte, os grãos de cevada ficam mergulhados em tanques de água por 2 a 3 dias e depois são espalhados em chão de concreto para germinar. O processo de germinação desses grãos pode durar até 8 dias e durante a germinação os grãos liberam uma enzima chamada diástase que transforma o amido dentro do grão em um elemento solúvel. No momento certo a germinação é interrompida sendo preciso secar o grão em fornos com turfa, e esse procedimento é o que faz com que a gente sinta um aroma e gosto de "defumado" no whisky (uma delícia), e assim a cevada foi malteada. Depois esses grãos malteados serão moídos, cozidos e usados na fabricação de Whisky.
As fotografias são proibidas na destilaria que visitei então o máximo que consegui são essas fotos. Interessante que a parte final da visita é a degustação.......os copos são minúsculos mas pode-se degustar vários tipos de whisky, então saí de lá um pouco "alegre da vida". Uma outra coisa que notei é que o aroma e o gosto do whisky comprado na destilaria é ligeiramente diferente do mesmo whisky comprado em lojas e mercados.
But what is Malt?Well, the word "whiskey" came from Gaelic spoken in northern Scotland and means "water of life". To make the malt, the barley grains are dipped in water tanks for 2 to 3 days and then scattered on concrete floors to germinate. The germination process of these grains can last up to 8 days and during germination the grains release an enzyme called diastase that transforms the starch in the grain into a soluble element. At the right moment the germination is interrupted and the grain has to be dried in ovens with peat, and this is what makes us smell and taste "smoked" in the whiskey (a delight), and so the barley was malted . Then these malted grains will be ground, cooked and used in the manufacture of Whiskey.The photos are prohibited at the distillery I visited so the most I could get were these photos. Interesting that the final part of the visit was the tasting ....... the glasses were tiny but we could taste various types of whiskey so I left there a little "cheery of life". Another thing I noticed is that the scent and taste of whiskey bought at the distillery is slightly different from the same whiskey bought in stores and markets.Então depois de ficar "alegre da vida" o melhor foi dar uma boa caminhada pra voltar ao prumo, e achar lugares interessantes é o que não falta na Escócia. Pequenos castelos, casas de antigos nobres, igrejas em ruínas ou não, tudo é válido.
So after getting "happy with life" the best was to take a good walk to get back on the plumb line, and finding interesting places is what Scotland does not lack. Little castles, houses of old nobles, churches in ruins or not, everything is valid.Já comentei que a vegetação da Escócia é diferente; as cores são fortes, lindas, vívidas, nunca vi isso em nenhum outro país.
