Conservation of Books:
Let's start reading?
In fact, without exaggeration, the ideal is to wash our hands before starting to browse or read a book because the natural fat in our hands is acid and can stain the pages as well as helping in the breakdown and subsequent decomposition of the paper.
Never moisten your fingertips with saliva to turn pages. Both fingers and tongue may have food particles and fungi that are easily left inside the book. The reverse can happen and you can carry fungi that were in the book to your mouth.
You can also use a folder to act as a " temporary cover " to avoid the sweat from the hands to pass the book cover. This folder can be Color set paper with the same height as the book but with a larger border to be folded inside, just like the layers of protection that comes in a few books.
Open your book gently respecting the natural limit of opening, without forcing it to fully open at an angle of 180 degrees. When we force such an opening the spine cracks over time, depending on the quality of the material used.
Do not pick up the book just by holding its covers, get it in a way to involve it with your hands.
Do not fold the sheets to mark where you stopped reading: use a brand-page paper. When we fold a page we change the role of the fragile fibers and it may break, and thus, the paper rips.
Do not use metal markers, or clips or staples, to mark the pages because the oxidation of these metals corrode and stain the paper.
Also do not use leaves or petals of flowers, letters, postcards, money, etc.. as markers, this material will deteriorate over time. Only use a paper as a marker and when you finish reading the whole book lift it out, do not forget it inside the book.
Do not eat while reading! Food eaten with the hand pass easily to the pages and food eaten with fork and knife is "attracted" to be spilled or splashed on the pages. In addition, food particles can settle into the book attracting insects and feeding fungi.
Keep your books away from animals, some puppies like to chew on objects such as tables and chairs legs, slippers ... and a book is always welcome to a good gnawed.
Also be careful that children early learn how to use the books so that they could be freely available to them and not placed on high shelves, out of reach.
See you soon!
